Historic and attractive stone-built rural village pub, located on sharp bend in main A629 road (9 miles north of Sheffield city centre) opposite Wortley Church and near the entrance to Wortley Hall. Owned by the Wharncliffe estate (the late Earl of Wharncliffe used to pull pints behind the bar). In recent years it has been well known for its real ales and good food. Reopened in December 2006 following a year of closure/renovation. Now a 'gastro-pub' but still selling real ales.
