It's reputed that a building was on the site of the pub in 1086, but the main building is predominantly 16th century and has been added to over the years. Still has the kiln/oven that dried the hops/malt that were brought up river to the pub and dried out in the Malt House (now a large comfortable lounge). The Beer Garden overlooks the bridge and River Clyst. There are no Handpumps in sight as all Real Ales are served by gravity from an adjoining room to the Bar. There are no keg beers or ciders to be found here either. Has had a special Bottle Conditioned Ale commissioned by O'Hanlons celebrating 106 years and 5 generations of the family at the pub. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II once called in at the pub for a visit. A great feel to the pub, especially the small bar room, and well kept Real Ales. A gem of a pub!
