HARDCOPY PUB GUIDES
Name Description
Good Beer Guide 2003 The Real Ale lovers’ bible. Compiled by CAMRA members across the country, this is the authoritative guide to a good pint from people who know the pubs very well.
Good Pub Guide 2003 Much more concerned about the food, and far less democratic than the Good Beer Guide (Pubs are selected or rejected by the editor and his deputy, who visit many of these pubs only once a year). However, this is a well-written, and reliable guide to some good pubs dotted around the country.
Real Ale Pub Guide 2003 A poor man’s Good Beer Guide. Nicely laid out, with good information about the beers sold. However, the lack of maps is irritating, and the selection of pubs eclectic, to say the least.
The AA Pub Guide 2003 Carries the authority and credibility of the AA. Fewer pubs are featured than in the Good Beer Guide or Good Pub Guide, but the layout is strong, with attractive photographs of some of the pubs, and good descriptions of all.
The Quiet Pint A guide to pubs throughout the country which have at least one bar where there is no piped music. Strongly linked with the Wetherspoon’s chain nowadays, the guide nonetheless features a wide variety of pubs, with fairly detailed descriptions of each.
Which? Guide To Country Pubs Concentrated on rural pubs with an emphasis on food, this bi-annual guide carries the authority of the Consumers' Association. The descriptions of the 900 pubs are well-written and detailed. Beware, of the 105 or so new entries since the last guide, only one is in Scotland, and eight in Wales.
